Writing Tip

Keep an idea box. Ideas for stories and characters can appear anywhere: a snatch of conversation overheard at a coffee shop (at least in the old days), the thought that wakes you from a dream, the spark that occurs when something you read connects with an older idea. Keep these ideas somewhere safe - whether it's a computer file, a small notebook in your back pocket, or a box full of inked napkins and scraps of paper. Check-in with your idea box occasionally to keep them incubating. Someday, they may make it into your writing.
