Weekly Words - a quote, a tool, and a tip for writers

"If you only read the books that everyone else is reading, you can only think what everyone else is thinking.” Haruki Murakami

A Writing Tool

Broaden your book horizons and shop at a black owned bookstore. Here's a list from the African American Literature Book Club. This morning I bought The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett and The Deep by Rivers Soloman from The Dock Bookshop in Fort Worth, Texas.

Craft Tip

What we write is a culmination of the experiences of our lives. We combine all we've done and all we've read into a new creative thread. Give yourself the best chance of writing well by reading broadly and thinking hard.
